Students at Woodend Primary are provided with specialist teachers in Music, Art and Physical Education. The early intervention program, Reading Recovery, is provided to children in Grade 1 who don’t reach the Prep benchmark in Reading. The school has a particularly energetic and inclusive Physical Education program and many students regularly compete in inter-school sports.
The school also has a thriving Instrumental Music Program. One in three students learn violin, cello, flute, saxophone, drums, guitar, keyboard, trumpet, trombone or singing. The vibrant ‘strings’ program runs a junior ensemble and has close ties with the Woodend Strings Orchestra - ‘Resonance’. Junior students are also able to participate in a Pre-Instrumental Music Program to prepare them for taking on a musical instrument in the following year. Many students participate in the school choir and the school holds a major musical production every second year.
